Mihri Ozkan, PhD
Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering,
Climate Action Champion Professor, University of California Riverside
Professor Mihri Ozkan has been a role model, a change maker, and a global advocate of sustainable and green energy technologies. She completed her graduate studies at Stanford University and at UC-San Diego. She is a faculty at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in UC-Riverside. Mihri has been selected as the Climate Action Champion faculty, because of her inspirational and innovative research and for her passion and dedication to develop advanced green energy technologies to take up the challenge of research and education to achieve carbon neutrality. Towards carbon neutrality, patented advanced Li-ion battery technology from abundant resources and environmentally friendly materials including waste glass bottles, portobello mushrooms, and beach sand, twice earned her “the Top 100 Author Award” from the publisher of Nature. Furthermore, she bridged the gap between discovery and commercialization through her disclosures licensed to industry. Mihri is vibrant and a great role model to women in engineering as a teacher and researcher with her exemplary research and her innovative and passionate teaching. Her awards, “The John J. Guarrera Engineering Educator of the Year” and the “Distinguished Engineering Educator Award” given by the US National Engineers’ Council recognizes Mihri as a leading extraordinary and influential engineering educator. Her exemplary innovative research and inspirational mentorship to women in engineering and girls from K-12 are recognized with distinction and acknowledged with the “National Emerging Scholar Award” by the American Association of University Women. Recently, she is recognized with the “Humanitarian Star Award” for her outstanding scientific and technological accomplishments in the environmental improvement category.
