About the speakers:

Raymond Wagenknecht, Managing Attorney, Wagenknecht IP Law Group

Raymond Wagenknecht is a patent attorney with strong ties to San Diego’s research and development community.  He has nearly 15 years of experience protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights for the life science and medical device industries. Raymond continues to develop and implement cost-effective strategies for protecting inventions internationally.  In addition, he prepares freedom to operate (FTO) reports to help avoid patent infringement and conducts due diligence investigations to assist with licensing and acquisition.  Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Raymond was actively involved in immunology research within the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Afterwards, he joined one of San Diego’s early Hybritech spin-off companies to help develop a proprietary 2D gel electrophoresis method of analyzing serum proteins. Raymond’s scientific career is peer reviewed by co-authorship on a number of scientific papers in the area of immunology and drug discovery.

 

Noel C. Gillespie, Partner, Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP

Noel C. Gillespie is a Partner with Procopio and formerly served on the firm’s Management Committee. He advises start up and emerging growth clients on strategic patent portfolio development and implementation to protect their technology and achieve their business objectives, the most important objectives being market share and premium pricing. Noel’s approach to patent portfolio development helps his clients ensure their patents guard these important objectives, even on a budget.  Noel worked as an electrical engineer for many years, leading teams in the development of man-worn free space optical communication systems and early CDMA cellphones before attending law school and becoming a patent attorney. He has extensive experience working with telecommunications companies, especially wireless telecommunications companies; digital health, health information technology, and medical devices companies; semiconductor; and software and Internet companies.  

 

 

Joe Mullis, General Manager, Neology Corporation

As General Manager of San Diego and Member of the Board of Neology, Joe Mullis leads the strategic direction of Neology’s Toll Business. This includes development and deployment of hardware products and system offerings, supply chain and supplier relationships, as well as product sales & marketing. Since joining the company Joe has helped shape Neology's intellectual property portfolio and is responsible for all IP related matters. He has successfully developed business opportunities, introduced leading-edge technologies and pioneered strategic alliances and business partnerships since joining Neology in 2003.
