Sustainable urban micro farming is here and we are looking for Clients & Partners!

UrbNrootZ is a San Diego-based startup bringing fresh, local, and sustainable edible and ornamental plants to neighborhoods, restaurants, and shared spaces. Using modern vertical grow systems powered by aquaponics and hydroponics, we aim to make vine-ripened produce available right where people live and work.

Our goals are simple:

  1. Deliver the most flavorful and nutritious foods to residents and restaurants.
  2. Cut the travel time, costs, and pollution of traditional agriculture.
  3. Design solutions that are affordable, functional, and visually appealing.
  4. Position San Diego as a national leader in sustainable urban agriculture.

Our Immediate Need

We’re seeking a space—800 sq. ft. or larger, indoor or outdoor—to launch our prototype micro-farm. This small-scale vertical farm will grow fresh produce for local farmers’ markets and food-insecure communities, with a share of each harvest donated to the property owners or lessors.

Qualifying properties within San Diego County’s Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone (UAIZ) may receive significant property tax savings for 5–10 years. You can check eligibility here: UAIZ Eligibility Map & Table.
Even if your property isn’t in the designated area, we welcome a conversation—there are still many mutual benefits to explore.

Collaboration Opportunities

If you’re a chef or restaurant owner, we’d love to co-create a custom micro-farm designed around your menu. Our compact systems can be mounted indoors or outdoors to provide your kitchen with fresh, perfectly timed harvests and a striking modern aesthetic. We proudly use San Diego Seed Company seeds—locally adapted varieties that thrive in our climate while offering exceptional flavor and diversity.

Together, we can make San Diego the capital of sustainable urban agriculture, setting a model for a new generation of local, fresh, and community-powered food systems.
